Lovely read. This post puts into words thoughts I've had for years. It also makes me feel a lot better about "lurking" in online spaces instead of engaging (btw, even the use of that word "lurker" has negative connotations-- you're not participating in The Discourse! You're just lurking!). I recently commented on a post by a comedian about how she would like to see a female version of The Joker. Boy was that a mistake! I had to make my twitter private for awhile because I was getting so many shitty comments about my bio picture, that I didn't deserve the job I had, that I was an "activist" and therefore my opinion wasn't valid-- it was dehumanizing.
